(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 24-year-old Cushing man who was already on probation for methamphetamine possession has been jailed on $100,000 bail on a charge of sending nude photos of himself to a 14-year-old girl’s cell phone to solicit a sexual encounter.

Thomas Lee Mays, who was arrested last week, had failed to appear in court for a March 11 probation violating hearing in his methamphetamine possession case. He is scheduled to appear in court this week on both charges.

In his alleged sexting case, an investigation began after a Payne County sheriff’s deputy was sent to a girl’s residence in February on a report of a female juvenile receiving text messages, court records show.

Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Hopper wrote in an affidavit that the 14-year-old girl’s mother said her daughter was receiving inappropriate text messages from two males — one of whom was subsequently allegedly identified by the girl as Mays.

The mother “showed me her daughter’s phone and several picture messages from Mays,” in which he was nude, the deputy alleged in his affidavit.

“Mays was identified by the 14-year-old female victim and also identified by a booking picture of him from the Payne County Sheriff’s Office,” the affidavit said.

The pictures from Mays were sent on Feb. 8 at 3:34 p.m., on Feb. 7 at 1:50 p.m., on Feb. 7 at 1:27 p.m., on Feb. 7 at 12:41 p.m. and on Feb. 7 at 12:40 p.m., the affidavit alleged.

Last year, Mays was placed on three years’ probation except 30 days in jail for possessing methamphetamine in Cushing on Dec. 18, 2008, court records show.

If convicted of sexting a minor, Mays could be given a 10-year prison term, according to the charge filed by prosecutor Jill Tontz in February.
