Palmer Marler Funeral Home
Gwen Gainer, a Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 in the St. Francis Medical Center, Tulsa, OK at the age of 66 years.
Memorial services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 in the First Freewill Baptist Church, Cushing, OK with Pastor James Coffelt officiating.
The daughter of the late James Smith and Mary (Evans) Smith, Gwen was born on December 30, 1946 in Cushing. While in middle school her family moved to Houston, TX where she continued her education, graduating from Sam Houston High School in Houston.
She was united in marriage to Richard Gainer on June 12, 1965 in Houston, TX and to this union three children, Kim, Aaron and Richie were born. They made their home in Houston where Gwen worked as a manager for rental property, managed storage units, and was a director for a day care for several years. Following their retirement, Gwen and Richard moved to Cushing in 2008.
Gwen was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Cushing and in her spare time she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, shop, and travel. She will always be remembered by her family as a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and a loving grandmother.
Survivors include her husband Richard of the home; two sons, Aaron Gainer of Cushing and Richie Gainer and his wife Amy of Tulsa; one daughter, Kim Williams of Cushing; one sister, Sondra Gilpin of Richmond, TX; two grandchildren, Madison and Alyssa; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by one grandson, Miles Williams.
