(Ripley, Okla.) The Ripley Christian Connection has made it their mission to give each elementary student in Ripley a new backpack filled with needed supplies. To try and meet their goal of 249 filled backpacks, two fundraisers have been scheduled.
Susan Henderson, Ripley Christian Connection, was interviewed about the project on the Donna & Molly Show Friday. Henderson said the project is one way to make connections in the community.
"We would love to have enough backpacks for every elementary child at Ripley," Henderson said. "There are 249 students, so we want to have 249 backpacks - filled."
Henderson said they will fill the backpacks with items on the supply list given out by the school and they plan on making this an annual project. The backpacks will be distributed at Ripley Elementary School Open House on Aug. 7th. School starts Aug. 9th.
The first of two fundraisers will be held from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21st at Collision Cafe 211 N. Perkins Road in Stillwater. The carnival-themed event will include Collisions staff members and volunteers dressed up and ready to take photos with kids for a $5 donation.
The second fundraiser will be held at Atwoods, 2211 N. Perkins Road in Stillwater, on August 4th. Volunteers will be selling hotdogs and taking donations.
Henderson said anyone wishing to make a donation can call 918-372-4785 or email her at susan@ripleyconnections.org. or mailed to Ripley Christian Connections, PO Box 32, Ripley, OK 74062.
"We will accept any kind of school supplies," she told KUSH listeners.
And of course, monetary donations are always appreciated.
