(Cushing, Okla.) According to Cushing Chamber of Commerce director Brent Thompson, 2012 was a record setting year for BBQ n Blues.
Thompson reported the Pipeline Appreciation Golf Tournament set a new record with 79 teams of four playing in the day and one-half tournament. "We had pipeline company vendors at every hole on the Cushing Country Club course giving away food and drinks along with company brochures," Thompson said. "The comments we are getting back has been extremely positive."
A new event was added this year - the Sporting Clay Tournament. After a bit of a slow start, the goal of 30 teams was surpassed with 33 teams participating on Friday.
The private party held on Friday had well over 2,000 in attendance. "For the first time since we have been in our new location, we had to scramble for additional parking for the attendees," Thompson continued.
The public event on Saturday was also well attended. "Last year at the BBQ 'n Blues Festival we sold 535 taster's kits," Thompson said. "This year we sold 874 - the largest number sold since moving to the new location." A total of 1100 pounds of brisket was smoked at this year's Festival.
TransCanada was the Judges' Choice winner and Plains took the People's Choice award. The OSU 2011 season commemorative football was auctioned off for $300. The lucky winner of the drawing for a brand new iPad donated by Matrix was Gjon Payne of Cushing.
"There are too many people to thank individually," Thompson said. "but those of you who helped in either a large or small way, know that you contributed to a very successful event. The Chamber wants to thank each and everyone of you. We could not accomplish a task this large without each and every one of you!"
