(Cushing, Okla.) The winner of the 2012 Mother's Day Contest was announced today on the Donna & Molly Show.
Michelle Branscum was surprised when she was told she was the lucky winner of some great Mother's Day gifts.
"I knew about the entry, but I had no idea I might really win," she told KUSH. Branscum is a single parent and has three children, Jamin Moore, who is a student at Oklahoma State University, and a set of twins - Given and Graci Branscum.
With the help of their aunt, Laura Lou Pierson, the 7-year-old twins submitted an entry in the 2012 Mother's Day promotion.
Here is what was written:
"My Mother is the "BEST" Mother in the world because she loves us. We are twins Given and Graci Branscum, our big brother is Jamin Moore and our Mother is Michelle Branscum.
Our Mom does everything for us. She makes sure that we are safe in our house, 'Lala' did you lock the door?' 'Yes Given, I did when I came in to the house, thank you.'
She keeps our house clean and teaches us to pick up our toys after we play. Mama is a good cook, too. She washes our clothes and folds them and puts them in the drawer. She lets us decide what we want to wear...sometimes.
She takes us to church on Sunday, because we love the Lord. Mama lets us sit on her rocking chair with her and listen to us read with her, she checks our homework. We have many fun and educational books and tapes and things.
We go to Sunnyside School, where Mama and my Uncle and Aunts went to school; we love our school and teachers.
When we first started school, we went to the Rise School at OSU in Stillwater. It is a school for children with special needs. We really got a good start there. My Sister and I have Autism, but it doesn't not stop us from learning. Mama makes sure that we have every learning tool available. She is a graduate of OSU with a degree in Early Childhood. She spends every waking hour teaching us to communicate with other people, how to play with other children and how not to have a meltdown when we are frustrated.
She takes us outside and keeps an eye on us while we play. We jump on the trampoline, ride our bikes and Graci loves to play in the water and make mud cakes and she gets muddy from head to toe! We also ride tricycles and shoot hoops. It is fun. My Mama even takes us out sometimes when it is cold, to play in the snow. We hope she doesn't get cold.
When there is a holiday, Mama decorates our house so we can learn about it and celebrate. We always have a pretty Christmas tree and funny stuff at Halloween.
When Jamin comes home sometimes he takes us out to play and gives us rides on his big, tall shoulders. He is a nice brother. We love for him to come home, because we have fun with him.
Sometimes when we get up at night, Mama gets up with us, too. She is very patient with us and gave us a big 7th birthday party on April 4, 2012.
Mama also takes good care of us when we are sick and makes sure Jamin keeps his grades up at OSU. She sometimes takes him shopping for food and things he needs.
She sometimes checks to see if he and the other guys (who rent at house) keep everything in order. She will be glad when he graduates.
Our Mama also just bought us two white bunny rabbits.
