Sierra Waggoner

(Cushing, Okla.)  Cushing High School senior Sierra Waggoner was recently selected as one of nine semi-finalists in the Eskridge Auto Group Free Ride.  If named the winner, Sierra will be awarded a $25,000 college scholarship and a new Lexus CT Hybrid from Eskridge Auto Group.

"It is the prettiest car I've ever seen," Sierra said smiling.  "I would love to win it."

But more important to Sierra would be the scholarship. "Winning that would help me have a better life," she continued.  "And then maybe I could help others."

Sierra has experienced tragedy and has faced many challenges in her young life.  In spite of that, she has somehow remained positive.

"She is very positive," her guardian Elese Guyot said.  "She uses humor a lot to get her through."

Guyot is also one of the ten or so people who wrote in to KOCO 5 TV nominating her for the award.

"I really don't want to say I deserve it more than anyone else - I don't know their lives," Sierra said humbly, "but I would like to win.  It would help me so much with the cost of college."

A bragger, she is not.  Although she certainly has plenty to brag about.  Her grade point is 3.8 and she scored 28 on her ACT.  "I really wanted a 30," she said.  With her sights set on going to college at Oklahoma State University, Sierra aspires to be a high school teacher.  She also admits to being a bit of a 'drama queen.'.

"I love acting!  I guess you could say it's my passion," she said enthusiastically.

Sierra played the lead in MacBeth at Cushing High School and is currently practicing for an April 20th performance of the play 'The Bold, the Young and the Murdered.'

Her other interests include painting and writing.

"Last year I wanted to be a playwright," she laughed.  "But I haven't written one yet."

Voting continues now through March 31st.  No limit on number of times you vote.
