Cushing Community Theatre is offering a workshop on how to audition for plays on Monday, February 8, at 7:00 pm, at the theatre, 105 E. Broadway. The workshop is free and open to the public. Dr. Sandra Williams, Theatre Artist in Residence with the Oklahoma Arts Council, will conduct the workshop for ages 8 through 80 or older.

"Most people are intimidated by coming to the theatre to read for a play. It can be pretty scary if you've never done it before or haven't auditioned since high school," Williams said.  "There are some simple techniques that can make it not so scary and increase your chances of getting a part."

Williams will be directing Cushing Community Theatre's next production, "The Turn of the Worm," and is holding auditions on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 15 and 16. The cast calls for two elderly sisters, one feisty and one gentle; a middle-aged man, a young man who's a bully, and a young girl who appears to be tough, but underneath wants to be loved and accepted.

"The workshop will give people a head start on auditioning for this play and for any play," she added.  "We'll learn about what directors are looking for, how to create a character, how to use your voice and the playwright's words to your best advantage, and how to present yourself with confidence. We won't be too serious, because I like for my workshops and auditions to be fun."

Williams will teach basic stage techniques on Monday, Feb. 22, at the theatre at 7 pm. That workshop is also free and open to the public.
