(Stillwater)- It's game week for the Cowboys who will open on the road at Seattle against the Cougars of Washington State Saturday afternoon. Both teams will enter the game seeking answers to questions that will determine how the season goes.
For OSU, how to replace the production of running back Dantrell Savage is one of several questions coaches will be trying to answer, although it appears Kendall Hunter is expected to take the lead.
Hunter proved himself a worthy understudy to Savage a year ago.
Sophomore Dez Bryant is expected to lead a talented corps of receivers who will be trying to offset the graduation of Adarius Bowman.
Perhaps the biggest question the Cowboys hope to answer is has the defense really improved. An improved d-line is expected to take some pressure off the secondary, which has seen the addition of several juco transfers who are expected to have an immediate impact.
For the Cougars, there are questions everywhere. The arrival of new Head Coach Paul Wullf and the installation of a new spread offense make the Cougars a bit of an unknown quanity. Media types have picked WSU to finish last in the north division of the Pac-10. Wulff has been quoted as saying the Cougars need more consistency at wide receiver, a key component in his offensive attack.
Wulff has also expressed disappointment in the kicking game, and had not settled on a placekicker to start the season.
By this time next week, both squads will have some badly needed answers. The game kicks off at 12:20 PM in Seattle (2:30 Central) and will be televised by FOX Sports Net. The game will be played at Qwest Field in Seattle.
