Bernice W. James, passed into her eternal home on March 7, 2019 at the age of 92 years surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 16, 1926 in Drumright, Oklahoma to Jesse Velt and Nancy C. (Moody) Williams. She grew up and was educated in the Olive Community and graduated in 1944 from Olive High School.
She married the loved of her life Frank Doyle James on December 18, 1944 and to this union seven children were born. Being an army wife they lived in many places, upon returning from France in 1956 the family made their home in Abilene, Kansas for 61 years.
As well as being a homemaker, she was an Avon representative for over 35 years finally retiring at 86 years old. She was also an ordained minister preaching and officiating at weddings.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Frank, in 2001; children Jimmy Leon and Elizabeth in infancy; Sons Darrell Lee James in 2011 and Michael David James in 2017; five brothers Brooks, Hardy, Donald, Howard and Bobby Williams and two sisters Irene Groom and Dorthella James.
She is survived by daughter Susanne M. Howell (Robert) and Nancy L. Sams of Cushing, OK and son Frank Douglas James of Twin Falls, Idaho; grandchildren Erik D. James (Tracy), Edward Lee (Linda), Michelle Everett, Amber Reiff (Scott), Jessica M. James, Sarah James and Tyler James; 8 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Vogele of Drumright, officiating.
Interment will be at the Fort Riley Kansas Post Cemetery.
